Cameroon Make History, Win First-Ever WAFCON Title After Crushing Malawi 3–0

Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses have finally conquered Africa.

Cameroon defeated Malawi 3–0 in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat, Morocco, on Sunday to lift the continental trophy for the first time in the country’s history.

After years of disappointment on the biggest stage, Cameroon finally ended its long wait with a commanding performance that will go down as one of the greatest moments in the history of the country's women's football.

A Historic First Half

Cameroon wasted little time taking control of the final.

Marie Ngah Manga opened the scoring in the 20th minute before Naomi Eto doubled the advantage nine minutes later.

Ngah then returned in first-half stoppage time to score her second goal of the night and give Cameroon a commanding 3–0 lead before the interval.

Malawi had no answer after the break as Cameroon protected its advantage and completed a memorable clean-sheet victory.

From Final Heartbreak to African Champions

The victory is particularly significant because Cameroon had repeatedly come close to winning the competition.

The Indomitable Lionesses had suffered defeats in previous WAFCON finals, including against Nigeria in 2004, 2014 and 2016.

This time, however, there would be no heartbreak.

Cameroon finally joined the exclusive list of nations that have won the Women's Africa Cup of Nations. The country becomes the fourth WAFCON champion, joining Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and South Africa.

Malawi's Fairytale Run Ends in the Final

Although Malawi lost the final, the Scorchers leave Morocco with enormous credit.

Making their debut at the WAFCON, Malawi shocked established teams on their way to the final and became the first Southern African nation to reach the tournament's championship match on debut.

Their remarkable run also earned Malawi qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil.

Cameroon, Malawi, Morocco and Algeria will represent Africa at next year's World Cup after reaching the decisive stages of the tournament.

Cameroon Has a New Football Crown

The victory gives Cameroonian women's football a historic achievement and provides a major boost ahead of the 2027 Women's World Cup.

For a generation of players who grew up watching Cameroon repeatedly fall short in WAFCON finals, this victory represents the end of a painful chapter.

The Indomitable Lionesses are no longer just contenders.
